Caffeine-Free Chai

Caffeine-Free Chai

As some of you may know I avoid caffeine. I have been addicted before and I hate the feeling of needed caffeine to feel ‘normal’. Unfortunately, that is the reality of most of America today. Since I don’t consume caffeine on a regular basis, I have to get creative with my drinks. I love waking up and enjoying a cup of tea or a nut milk latte but it’s hard when most of that contains caffeine typically. One of my favorite teas and treats for when I am allowing myself some caffeine is chai. It has such warm flavors and I love the spicy kick it has. Sooooooo I created this mix that you can keep in your pantry for those special latte moments. I make a big batch and keep it in a jar with a little scoop but this is also such a great gift idea to share with friends and family as well. Below I have the recipe for the mix and how I make my latte! Also pro tip: there are 4 tablespoons in a 1/4 cup and 3 teaspoons in a tablespoon! Might help when measuring :)

Ingredients:

the mix

  • 1/4 cup ground cinnamon

  • 2 tbs ground ginger (if you like it spicy, I suggest doubling)

  • 1 tbs black pepper (adds additional spice)

  • 1.5 tbs ground cardamom

  • 3/4 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 3/4 tsp ground clove

the latte

  • 1 tsp of the mix

  • 2 tbs maple syrup (or other sweetener)

  • 2 tsp boiling water

  • 1 cup homemade nut milk (or store bought)

Directions:

  1. Add the spice mix and sweetener of choice to a mug

  2. Add the boiling water and stir with a spoon to remove all the lumps. You can also add all the ingredients to a blender to make it extra frothy and smooth

  3. Heat your non dairy milk of choice and add it to the mug

  4. Use a milk frother to add some foam and top with extra cinnamon

  5. Enjoy!
